Someone offered me money to write stuff and make Youtube videos about games. If I ever got this opportunity, I thought it would be a slam dunk holy crap yes thing.
But even after some negotiations and stuff, I’m still not sure I can do it. I’m super self-conscious about my voice and I’ve never done any kind of real Youtube videos, so I’m scared to try. I mean I want to do my own Stream, but I didn’t want to do it for possible MONEY, so I wasn’t so concerned about quality overall. Guys my head hurts.
I don’t post a lot but I promise that I love all of you very much. So enjoy what you see.
I tried the other level 20 dungeon, Stormtalons Lair. It was more difficult, but other than the fact that the bosses started difficult and got easier, and a bit of a UI bug (I couldn’t break out of stuns until I reloaded the UI, made some of the trash mobs nearly impossible) I’m still very happy with the direction that Carbine is going.
I’ve had concerns and stuff about Wildstar, the keyboard turning and targeting especially. But the way things have been implemented have been acceptable to me. I would like to see the keyboard turning go faster to make things easier for those of us that can’t use a mouse, but that’s not what I want to talk about today.
I did my first dungeon today, and because of the way the classes work, I was able to do it as a healer, and that makes me INCREDIBLY happy. In other MMOs, I haven’t been able to play a healer because you have to be able to click on your target, or at least mouse over it. I can’t do that because I only have one hand, and that hand has to be on the keyboard to cast spells.
The Medic changes that. Most of the medic abilities, at least to level 20, have no target factor. You cast it and it goes out straight ahead of you, or it fills a large square around you. Which means you don’t need to click on anyone to cast your heals. This means I can do it all with just my hand, and I like that I now have the option to heal in an MMO.
There ARE a few abilities that require you to have a target, but those are a ground target, and based on the way you play, you don’t NEED to use them at all. But because of the quick channel for abilites in the game, I am able to cast a heal, and then aim my next ability while that channel goes off so I can ground target effectively in Wildstar as well! (Also, I mapped dash to one of my mouse buttons as a secondary, so if I need to move while I’m ground targeting I’ll be okay!)
Now about the dungeon itself. I did the Ruins of Kel Voreth, and I learned something very interesting about Wildstar:
The dungeons do not fuck around.
The very first dungeon, (or rather, one of two that become available at level 20 on the group finder) is like the heroic version of something you would find in another game. It doesn’t feel unfair, but mechanics are in place beyond the simple tank and spank you might expect for early dungeons. You’re probably going to die your first time you face a boss. You might die a few times, even, but you know WHY you died every time. You learn. Then you get a little farther the next time. It might not be the same with every dungeon, but my group never faced any sort of randomness that outright killed the group because we weren’t prepared, when we died it was because of a telegraph we weren’t familiar with, that we dodged the next time. Or the boss marked one of us and we really didn’t know what it meant until they became a bloody splatter that I couldn’t heal through because it HAS to be pulled away from the mob.
Or um.. (Thanks for the gif Yogscast)
That happened and we died, but the patterns weren’t so random that they were impossible. We learned if you stand far enough away, there’s plenty of room/time to avoid the disks of death.
Wildstar dungeons are HARD right out of the block, but they aren’t impossible. The NORMAL dungeons are like Heroics in other games. Once you learn them they’ll be no big, and I can only wonder what the ACTUAL challenge dungeons will be like at 50. I can’t wait.
Okay I think I’m finished for now. A little treat for myself since Beta is back tomorrow.
In Wildstar, the speed at which your character turns in a circle when you hold down the A or D key is fairly slow, so people made a request on the forum (because the Devs are listening lol) to make the keyboard turning speed faster.
Seems like a nice, simple request, right?
But there are a number of people that think turning with a keyboard is “bad” and that if you can’t learn to do it the “right” way, you shouldn’t play this game. Even though it doesn’t affect THEIR game play at all, it’s their idea of how the game should be played, and if you can’t use the mouse, then fuck you, play something else.
I hate people sometimes. But Wildstar is still awesome, and being that the devs have listened to players with many other things (the recent announcement of more character creation options, changing the way Stun Breakouts work), I am hopeful they will implement a method to control keyboard turning speed.
LOOK WHAT BLACKHAND COULD BE WITHOUT THE HUNCH!
KILL THE HUNCH!
This looks so much better, down with the hunch.
Because he totally looks like Orc!Deathwing.
Also if Thrall gets to have access to a chiropractor, other Orcs should have the chance to stand upright too.
Can we have player Orcs stand up straight for a change too? This looks rad as fuck.
She was a vixen when she went to school; And though she be but little, she is fierce.
If you don’t think this is super awesome, then I don’t know what to say.
and you try to use the word “sheeple” you automatically lose.
Carbine just got notice from “management” that they’re moving to a new office. I can’t help but be pessimistic about this. Is this NCSoft beginning their MMO liquidation protocol? Soak up dat sweet, sweet initial sales profit, then pull out and not bother with upkeep needed to keep a dynamic platform running. But NCSoft gives no fucks, they got their perorder money. See: GW2.
I think some people wanted to see my house in Wildstar so here’s the outside property! It’s not as developed as I’d want it to be. I have big plans, but that’s going to take some more money. :p
Housing items are basic, really, but you can re-size them or shift them on any axis you wish. You can even smoosh items together.
